Academic Fair Article
Written by Grade 5 Students: Sophie and Katie
“Students, teachers, and parents all enjoy the annual Academic or Science Fair at Riverbend School. Academic Fair is a very exciting time of the year. Students work on their project for a month and on the presentation night, it is their time to shine. It is a wonderful way for students to share with the community what they have learned.
On April 11th, it was time to show off the projects. There were so many interesting topics to learn from such as Optical Illusions, How Color Affects Memory, Replacing Sugar, Yellow Fever, or Anti Vietnam War Movement etc .
Each student in Upper Elementary and Middle School had to present in front of one to three judges. They would come and evaluate each student’s project. Some students were nervous at first, but they soon realized how much fun it can be.
After the judging process, at 7:00 pm, parents came in to enjoy their child’s work. Teachers and students had put in so much effort into this project and when the parents arrived, they were amazed by all the work done for this one night. Mr. Puleo, Upper Elementary teacher, says his favorite part of the academic fair is, “Seeing students happy and confident in their work.” Amalia, a third grader in Mrs. Harea’s class says what she liked most about the academic fair was, “Presenting to everybody.”
The Academic fair is an amazing educational experience and a great chance for students to practice their presentation skills. The Academic and Science Fair is such an important tradition of this school.”
This years Kindergarten through 8th grade academic fair was a wonderful experience. Each student clearly demonstrated their understanding and passion on the topics they chose. We are very proud of our students and wish to thank everyone who came to support them.
