Frequently Asked Questions
Why does Riverbend have an Annual Fund?
Tuition does not cover the full cost of a providing a Riverbend education to each student. By supplementing this gap with the Annual Fund, Riverbend can decrease the school’s dependence on tuition and maintain greater affordability. This is true of most independent schools. The operating gap was $1,300 per child for the 2016-2017 year. Additionally, since Riverbend does not yet have endowment income contributing to the financial model, the school is entirely reliant on current giving.
Where does the money from the Annual Fund go?
Proceeds from the Annual Fund support financial aid, the teacher appreciation fund, professional development, technology improvements, field trips, community events and educational enrichment programming. In total, these important elements of our program cost more than $400,000 a year.
My family can’t afford to give much; does $25 really make a difference?
Yes, it does! Every contribution is meaningful and your support sends an important message to the community that you believe in the mission and vision of Riverbend School. Beyond this, external institutions look at the participation rate of the Annual Fund when they evaluate the school. These can be a bank ,when the school applies for a loan to construct a building, or a foundation/corporation when the school applies for a grant/donation.
Numbers matter and, last year, 100% of our staff and 90% of our families participated in the Annual Fund. It is a significant claim for a school to be able to say it has full support of its fundraising efforts. Make the donation that feels right for you. Thank you!
What is the difference between the Annual Fund and the Annual Gala?
Your donation to the annual fund is an unrestricted gift to the school that directly supports the current operating budget. Proceeds from the annual event are also unrestricted, but sometimes, they are designated for financial aid.
Are funds being raised for a capital campaign?
While we are not currently raising funds for a capital campaign, one is being considered. In the meantime, there are still limited naming opportunities remaining for our newly-built Children’s House. If you are interested in learning more about these, or in donating to our future building plans, please contact the Development team, by email or at 508-655-7333 x127.
Does Riverbend School have an endowment fund?
We do not currently have an endowment, but hope to begin to build one soon. Our school is young and we are thinking about its long term sustainability. Balancing the current needs of the school with the capacity of the community in conjunction with building for the future are all considerations of an endowment effort. If you are interested in discussing endowment plans, please contact the Development team, by email or at 508-655-7333 x127.
Are my donations tax deductible?
Yes. Our annual fund coincides with the school’s fiscal year: July 1-June 30. All gifts are tax-deductible for the calendar year in which they are made.
How do I donate?
Donations can be made in any one of several ways:
