Frequently Asked Questions
Why does Riverbend have an Annual Fund?
Even full tuition does not cover the actual cost of a providing a Riverbend education to each student. By supplementing this gap with an Annual Fund, Riverbend can decrease the school’s dependence on tuition and maintain greater affordability. This is true of most independent schools. The operating gap is projected to be just over $1,000 per child for the 2015-2016 year. Additionally, since Riverbend does not have endowment income contributing to the financial model, the school is entirely reliant on current giving.
Where does the money from the Annual Fund go?
Proceeds from the Annual Fund are important to supporting financial aid, the new teacher appreciation fund, professional development for our teachers, technology improvements, field trips, community events and educational enrichment programming. In total, these items cost over $400,000 a year.
My family can’t afford to give much, does $25 really make a difference?
Every contribution is important and participation sends the important message to the community that you support the mission and vision of Riverbend School. Beyond this, external institutions look at the participation rate of the Annual Fund when they evaluate the school, be it a bank when the school applies for a loan to construct a building or a foundation/corporation when the school applies for a grant/donation.
Numbers matter greatly here and last year 90% of our staff participated in the Annual Fund. It is a significant claim for a school to be able to say that 100% of its families support it. Make the donation that you can afford – it matters only that you make it!
What is the difference between the Annual Fund and the Auction Gala?
The annual fund is an unrestricted gift to the school that goes to the current operating budget to close the gap. In the past, proceeds from the auction gala were also unrestricted, but for the 2015-2016 year, all proceeds from non-designated items at the gala are going to financial aid.
Are funds being raised against a capital campaign?
There is not currently an open capital campaign nor plans for one in the immediate future. There are still limited naming opportunities remaining for our newly-built Children’s House. If you are interested in learning more about these opportunities, or in donating to our future building plans, please contact Director of Outreach Katie Terino by email or at 508-655-7333 x127.
Does Riverbend School have an endowment fund?
While we do not currently have an endowment, we hope to build one in the future. Our school is young, but that does not mean that we are not thinking about the long term future of the school. Balancing the current needs of the school with the capacity of the community in conjunction with building for the future are all considerations of an endowment effort. If you are interested in discussing endowment plans, please Director of Outreach Katie Terino by email or at 508-655-7333 x127.
Are my donations tax deductible?
The dates of this annual fund coincide with our school’s fiscal year: July 1-June 30. All gifts are tax-deductible for the calendar year in which they are made.
How do I donate?
Donations can be made in any one of several ways:
